Bengal cats are a domesticated cat breed created by combining domestic cats with the Asian leopard cat. Bengal kittens and by extension Bengal cats have a glitter on their fur and might have spots, rosettes or marbling which makes them have a deceptively wild appearance. Typically, Bengal cats are smart, energetic, and playful animals and can even have some stereotypical dog characteristics, including fetching and playing in the water. They may also be leash trained and join you through your adventures.


The Bengal cat loves action and he will be happy living his pampered and spoiled life with kids and other pets like dogs. You must always keep in mind that the Bengal cat has high hunting instinct so you will always need to be careful when having other small pets such as mice or rats, ferrets or birds in his environment.



Even if the Bengal cat has more energy than a domestic cat, know that he will still love to nap at any time of the day, and sleep during the night. He will search for the perfect spot in height or near you so he can fall asleep comfortably. Let me tell you that we fall for the Bengal cat breed very quickly as they are so endearing.

Origins of Bengal Cats

It was in 1963 that the American Jean S. Mill created this crossbreed for the first time. From this crossing was born the first hybrids called “F1” (1st generation) then “F2” (2nd generation), semi-wild cats. After the 4th and 5th generations, the Bengal cat was referred to as “domestic”. In our program, we produce the 7th and 8th generations after the Asian leopard, which allows us to create Bengal kittens that are very affectionate and good-natured.


It took several years for the Bengal cat breed to be recognized by the International Cat Association (TICA), and it was only in 1985 that Jean S. Mill was able to participate to her first cat show. The success was immediate, and today, the Bengal cat breed is more popular than ever on a global scale!

Genetics of Bengal Cats

In terms of genetics, there isn’t much of a genetic difference between wild cats and domesticated cats.
In fact, this is what allowed the cross between the two felines to work. The result ; a simply magnificent Bengal cat. It has the sought after wild appearance of the jungle leopard but in a small kitten body, with a gentle, social and endearing temperament.

Very interesting point about the genetics of Bengal cats, is that there are lots of possible color genes which makes it possible to create Bengal kittens completely out of the ordinary. They are magnificent imitations of the snow leopard and the black panther.
