Lumos and Nox have added so much fun and love to my life! From the moment I picked them up they have been energetic but lovable softies! They are growing into beautiful strong felines and their intellect is astounding! Both Lumos and Nox love to play. They can chase toys (and each other) for hours but they also love to cuddle. Every day they come and fall asleep in my lap on the couch and purr away. Lumos and Nox are the perfect brother sister combo! They fight, play, and love each other unconditionally! Lumos is much more shy than Nox and I often hear him calling out for Nox and she will run to him instantly to make sure he’s okay! I truly love them so much and working with Sabrina was just fantastic. She is so nice and hard working and I can tell Lumos and Nox were handled with all the love and care in the world before they came to me.

Thank You!!!!!! Alex, Lumos, and Nox!

About The Melanistic Bengal Cat  _

What is a melanistic/black Bengal cat?

A black Bengal cat is the most beautiful imitation of the black panther. He has the appearance of a big wild cat but with the behavior and the size allowing him to walk in your living room. We call the black Bengal cat a melanistic Bengal. He has a rosetted or marbled pattern like other Bengal cats but we do not really see much because the pattern is black on black. There is, however, a slight difference in color that sometimes allows us to see what is called ‘’ghost’’ markings in the natural light of the sun. Besides, if you look close, the black panther also has those ghost markings.

Melanistic Bengal cats in all colors!

We can also combine the melanistic gene of the black Bengal cat with other colors such as silver (silver smoke) and snow (solid snow).

What is a silver smoke Bengal cat

The silver smoke Bengal cat is both silver and melanistic (black). To describe him, we say a silver smoke Bengal, not a silver melanistic. This color is really special because the melanistic gene makes the Bengal cat all black and the silver gene whitens the background of the coat. In the end, the silver smoke Bengal cat is black with a pure white background.

What is a solid snow Bengal cat?

A solid snow Bengal cat is both snow and melanistic. He is called a solid snow and not a snow melanistic. The snow gene makes the Bengal cat white, and the melanistic gene makes the Bengal cat black. The result is a beautiful chocolate color that varies depending on whether the Bengal is a solid snow lynx, mink or sepia. In the photo we see LynxLand Chocolate Kiss, a solid snow mink Bengal cat.

How to produce melanistic/black Bengal kittens?

Producing or not producing melanistic Bengal kittens is not difficult as long as you understand how this color gene works. The melanistic gene is recessive, which means that both parents must give a copy of the gene for the “all-black” effect to appear. A black Bengal cat therefore has 2 copies of the melanistic gene, genetically identified (a/a).

In other words, to produce black Bengal kittens, both parents must absolutely be melanistic OR carry the melanistic gene to be able to transmit it.

A Bengal cat carrying the melanistic gene is a cat that has received only 1 copy of the gene. In appearance, he will not be black but no matter his color (brown, silver, snow or blue), the melanistic gene has often provided a better contrast to many of our Bengal cats.

Note: 2 melanistic Bengal cats together will only produce melanistic kittens.
